ORANGE CHICKEN

Orange chicken is a sweet and tangy Chinese classic dish that consists of cubed bits of chicken that are finely coated and deep-fried, then glazed in a sweet and sticky orange sauce. This dish is delicious with an accompanying flavor.

ORANGE CHICKEN 

 

INGREDIENTS:

 

Orange Sauce:

  • Cornstarch 1 tbsp
  • Soy sauce 1 1/2 tbsp
  • Water 1/3 cup
  • Sugar 4 tbsp
  • Vinegar 4tbsp
  • Fresh orange zest 3tbsp
  • Orange juice 1/2 cup
  • Cubed onions 1/2 cup
  • Chopped carrots 1/2 cup

Chicken Marinade:

  • Oil (for frying)
  • Boneless chicken, (cut in 2-inch pieces) 2lbs
  • Egg 1
  • Salt  11/2tsp
  • White pepper 1/4 tsp
  • Oil 1 tbsp
  • Cornstarch 1/2 cup
  • Flour 1/4 cup
  • Fresh ginger 1 tbsp
  • Garlic 1 tsp
  • Red chili flakes 1/2 tsp
  • Green onions 1/4 cup
  • Sesame oil 1tsp

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Prepare the orange sauce by whisking together the cornstarch, soy sauce, water, sugar, vinegar, orange zest, and orange juice. 
  • Combine the chicken, egg, salt, pepper, and oil in a bowl and completely coat the chicken within the batter.
  • In a bowl, combine the cornstarch and flour and mix well.
  • Add the chicken to the cornstarch mixture and coat it completely.
  • Add the chicken to the hot oil and cook until golden brown and crisp.
  • Remove the chicken from the oil and let drain on a paper towel.
  • In a separate wok, heat 1 tbsp of oil over high heat. Add the ginger and garlic and cook, stirring constantly.
  • Add the cubed onions and carrots.
  • Add the crushed red pepper and green onions.
  • Stir in the reserved orange sauce and bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Cook until the sauce thickens.
  • Add the chicken and sesame oil and stir well to coat the chicken in the sauce.
  • Enjoy it with fried rice
