ABOUT ME

Welcome! I am Afshan Khan. By birth Jordanian and a Pakistani national. Spent my early childhood in Kuwait. Suffered the Gulf War and moved back to our home country, Pakistan. My marriage took place in 2003. Moved to California with my husband and girls back in 2011. Presently, I am a full hands-on mom of 4 girls.

I have an obsession with interior design and organizing setups……. which I have done several times, compiling recipes in my kitchen, a DIY-er and crafter, a party planner, and a multitasking person. I keep myself busy with all-rounder projects, Home Improvement, Cooking, Baking, Party planning, painting, and more…….and plan to fit everything into this blog.

Every kitchen has a heritage and every recipe has a writer. Watching my elders cook traditional and savory foods along with their techniques of molding, enhancing, and presenting the food on the table, developed an interest in the cuisine world. It was like playing with different colored ingredients and spices, skillfully picturing it up on a platter. My cooking style can be described as energetic, unique, and balanced, with an epicure aptitude. I grew up in a family where the kitchen was eternally the meeting place of the home, and good food was appreciated with the memories that surrounded it. Since my childhood, I was surrounded by unique cooking from an early age and instantly fell in love with everything about food.

This blog will be an extraction of continental cuisine and cultural spices, which was known through my journey back from Jordan to the United States, involving recipes from Jordan, the famous “Mansaf”, the Kuwaiti “Hummus with Khubz”, The popular Karachi’s” Student Biryani”, the stacked “Chicken on waffles” of California,  and the list goes deep in between. My relationship with food has been fair, healthy, reliable, and obsessional.  I believe food is a way of communicating, the energy we pass on, through our cooking, nourishes the body as well as one’s soul.

This blog will give you an insight into the endless battle between my mind and heart, by brainstorming, recipe testing, photographing, and sharing. In short, cooking is my happy place. Cooking brings me joy. It always has, and nourishing my family and friends is how I show love throughout.
