Halal Thai Food Street, Bangkok.

BANGKOK

Haroon Mosque

The Muslim Community

Halal Thai Food Street is located in the Bangrak area,  in the city of Bangkok, Thailand. As we enter this place, we can smell all the spices in the surroundings. This place is behind a famous Mosque, named “Haroon Mosque”. It’s a historical place that belonged to a community of  Indonesian Arabs, in the past, they originated this place and got settled.

The Food Street

There is a well-populated society along with the mosque, where the people do all the cooking by themselves inside their residence and sell it outdoor in the street, to satisfy their customers.
A couple of vendors also sell unique Thai sweets, apart from breakfast and lunch.
This Thai sweet is a blend of semolina and dry nuts, but it is moist and dense.
This place is also famous for ‘KHAO MOK’, the name of a Thai biryani.

The Breakfast Stall

The whole street is narrow and packed. The vendors have constructed booths outside their residence, a complete set up for customers to enjoy the hot served food. Last summer we planned a trip to Bangkok and prior to that, we researched plenty of places to visit and eat. On our list, we had this food street too, in which we found this special breakfast place called “ROTI MATABA KHUN MAI”.

Impressive Hospitality

This booth belonged to a very generous lady, she makes stuffed flatbread, both sweet and salty. This sweet flatbread is topped with condensed milk and is served with milky tea, whereas,  the salty flaky flatbread is cooked with a filling of marinated eggs, chicken, and onions and it comes along with a veggie salad. The price of this breakfast is 175 THB which means it only costs us about $5 per person.

We went to this place early in the morning, it was raining heavily. At first, we assumed everything will be closed, but surprisingly the vendors were prepared for everything. The street was on the move. It was a really tight place, but the food was worth it. Most vendors make everything in front of you…., especially breakfast. These people are very welcoming, and also a great host.
